The ever developing role of today’s Care staff requires a variety of professional skills. They need to have the ability to manage an emergency situation before an ambulance arrives. Some staff may have received training in Basic First Aid but the requirement for all staff to have extended skills in patient management is now recognised and may be a requirement of the student’s job description, a legal requirement, or may be used as evidence towards gaining elements of NVQ. A written testimony for NVQ students can be given on request. Yearly refreshment of these skills is also recommended.

Our courses are provided at your work place, (or at Forncett) and comply with Health & Safety Executive recommendations for an Appointed Person, as described in the Approved Code of Practice of The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

The purpose of the course is to orientate the first responder to the initial assessment and management of pre- hospital emergencies, and to conform to the Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines on Basic Life Support.

The content within the learning material and practical skills acquired during the course are designed to enable the student to provide basic first aid skills needed to give immediate care. This six hour course represents the minimum information necessary to manage the casualty initially before reaching definitive medical care.

Upon completion the student will be able to:

             Provide area safety management skills

Establish immediate care priorities in an emergency situation

Initiate primary and secondary care within the first few minutes of a life threatening emergency
